Defining a plan for returning a tourism
and leisure business to profit

Industry: Tourism and leisure

.

This tourism and leisure business is nestled in the stunning Scottish Highlands, offers a wide range of accommodation and multi-sport activities on site as well as a restaurant, bar and shop, which when combined with its location make it a popular destination for families on holiday, who rate it highly.

Challenge

Despite the centre’s offering and stunning location, it has faced challenges in recent years. Due to recent financial losses driven by increasing costs of sale, COVID-19, consumer confidence and necessary investments in site infrastructure, they were operating with a trend of a net loss. Genoa Black was engaged by shareholders to help the business build a plan for returning to profitability.

Our work

Following the diagnosis of current conditions, Genoa Black prepared a 1-3-5 year business plan articulating a strong vision for the organisation and a strategy for how to get there. The core objective was to return the business to sustainable profitability within five years but do so whilst working within the diagnosis of highly limited capital and operational expenditure potential.

The plan, created in 2023, gives the business a validated route to becoming financially stable. With limited expenditure potential the plan pursues a strategy of securing a high volume of low expenditure, marginal revenue gains, that compound to significantly impact revenue over time. This approach is supported by cost cutting and securing additional investment.
